Meet Philip McKernan

Inspirational Speaker, Writer & Filmmaker

Philip works with entrepreneurs and business leaders all over the world. When people are seeking clarity about their future or want to move through roadblocks, seen and unseen, they call Philip. As a speaker he has inspired and challenged the Canadian Olympic Team and The Pentagon to name a few.

He helps people get clear on who they are and where they need to go. He helps them transition in their personal

and professional lives so people feel aligned in all areas of life. Philip believes who and what we do ‘off the ice’ has a huge impact on our results ‘on the ice’.

What separates Philip from a lot of coaches, speakers and gurus is originality. He brings new conversations to the table and spends an obscene amount of time thinking and challenging the status quo, instead of simply repackaging business & life hacking strategies. Philip McKernan is a philosopher, a modern day philosopher of the human experience.

With a knack of getting into all sorts of scenarios – he’s caddied in golf for the President of Ireland, been chased and nearly killed by a bull elephant in Nigeria and made wine in Australia. He has traveled to 80 countries around the globe and has worked with orphans in Sri Lanka, Peru, India and Guatemala, written 4 books despite being dyslexic and his Philip-McKernan-Stage1first documentary film will be released in late 2016. The film explores how the gift of giving makes up feel more worthy and alive. It also explores the science behind the impact of giving on our emotional well being, our mental health, our physiology and our business’s.

Philip believes the path to a happy and fulfilling life is found through the meaning we derive in life through the WORK we do, our relationship to OTHERS and the most important relationship of all, the one with ones SELF.

Episode 031 - Dr. Jeff Spencer - How to be a Champion (At Life)

In Dr. Spencer's own words:

At just nine years old, I used to wake up at 4:30 a.m. to practice hitting a baseball up and down our street. That competitive spirit led to winning a national championship at just ten years old and then becoming an Olympian at twenty-one.

For the past forty years, I’ve been a professional student of human achievement. I’ve been driven by this unshakable question: why do some people succeed and others fail?

After retiring from professional competition, I went back to school to earned advanced degrees in health and wellness. In the decades since then, I’ve worked with athletes in nearly every professional sport, Olympic gold medalists, and millionaire entrepreneurs. I’ve had a front-row seat as I watched these world-class achievers do what they do.

js_profile-300x261Those who try and fail think that the secret is the one thing they don’t know or the magic bullet that’s going to solve it all. Real champions—those who consistently win—approach life as a whole. They aren’t merely trying to race to the top or make a million dollars. Those are only milestones on the road to true achievement.

They travel a certain path and pay attention to the big picture. They have looked ahead to the future and decided what their life’s legacy will be—and the time in-between is simply spent filling in the blanks.

I call their path the Champion’s Blueprint. I’ve studied what these world-class achievers intuitively do without even realizing it and broken it down into its component parts. For the past several years, I’ve shared it every chance I get. People always tell me how much clarity it gives them and the newfound sense of confidence they find. I’ve even heard it called “life changing.”

Episode 028 - The Birth Partner: A Guide To Labour & How To Be An Awesome Support

Co-hosts Dr. Alain Desaulniers and Dr. Chris Chatzoglou delve into an oddly rare topic: birth from the perspective of the birth partner.

Birth can be a scary thing. What's it like from the perspective of the partner? What do you do? How can you help? Find out.

Both doctors have had their children at home, and it was an awesome experience. They share their experience and unique perspective as not only fathers but chiropractors and health & wellness experts.

Here are a few stats on the safety of home birth (from We Birth at Home, the website of our past guest and awesome doula and birth advocate Jessica Austin.):

More and more families are choosing to birth at home as our modern culture begins to realize that hospitals and technology are often best reserved for only certain situations in childbirth.

Families plan to birth at home for a variety of reasons, but some of the most common reasons include the growing understanding that planned home births:

  • are more comfortable for the birthing woman and her partner and provide women with more satisfying birth experiences
  • provide a more natural birth environment that supports the normal physiology of birth
  • expose women and her baby to fewer medical interventions
  • have been found to be at least as safe, if not more so, than hospital birth in terms of maternal and fetal health outcomes

Dr. Mary Lucus-Flannery - Make Your Story Amazeballz

Mary is obsessed with Story. (She even capitalizes “Story” like it is a proper noun! Because it SHOULD be a proper noun. It’s that important.)

Mary got a random job working at a chiropractic school (because she needed to pay her bills). Whoa! Chiropractic really turned Mary’s world view around and brought all kinds of new ideas up. She eventually decided to become a chiropractor herself (even though all the science-y stuff freaked her out a little), graduated chiropractic school in 2000.

Mary now works full time as the Dean of Enrollment at a chiropractic college in California. She travels extensively, giving presentations to chiropractors and potential chiropractors. She oversees marketing, communications, outreach, recruitment and admissions. She practices the art of story every day in print materials, writing, speaking, teaching and personal connection. The world is her “think tank” and she is always looking for partners in storytelling.

Mary created the Art of Story project because she saw a need for this kind of work in her profession. She is certain that story really is like a magic elixir that makes everything better. She started teaching the online class and people got results. As she began integrating story into everything she watched those things get better and more effective. Now she is working on the Art of Story book.
